Westbrook Macquarie University Under 18’s
THE MAC WARRIORS
As you all would be aware by now we have been working tirelessly to finalise the new joint venture with the Macquarie University. The agreement was signed by Lee Jefferies and Steve Martin in an emotional meeting at the University as we were setting the foundation for a new era of our clubs.
So what has happened? Westbrook Junior Australian Football Club and Macquarie University Sport and Recreation’s affiliated Australian Football Club have joined forces in a venture that will make them the strongest identity in Sydney AFL competition.
Both organisations are professionally run and committed to performance excellence however Westbrook, without a senior team and Macquarie, without talented juniors could not hope to achieve the impact that this new alliance will deliver. This venture will see an under 18 side in the Sydney AFL premier league competition from 2007 onwards.
“Together we have created a program that will provide AFL for life incorporating Auskick, junior programs and senior football. Australian Rules football is the most exciting game and it is fantastic that this venture will now give our kids the future with opportunities they never have had before.”
This venture allows us now to go out into schools to work with the AFL in joint promotion of the greatest game of all. We will use our Academy players and the senior sides to promote the code throughout the Sydney market and this will grow the game and all clubs in the region. The good thing is we will be the ones driving the promotion and helping to increase the strength of all clubs.
The alliance will provide a clear pathway for Westbrook’s junior players into senior football keeping them playing Australia’s most popular game longer. And for Macquarie it will provide a talented pool of juniors to induct into their player development program to deliver performance excellence and long-term success.
“The AFL academy will set us apart from other institutions and set us on the pathway of making Macquarie University the number 1 sporting university in Australia. It will also lead to an increase in AFL participation in Sydney, encourage performance excellence and will become a model of success for the development of junior footballers into stars of the future. We now can put into place a myriad of ideas that can only grow the sport in this current and the future environment” said Glenn Warry of the Macquarie University Sport and Recreation.
See you all at the new home of AFL
